C R Patna or Channarayapatna is a taluk Headquarter situated on the Bangalore – Mangalore Highway NH 48, about 40 km from Hassan. There is a lovely Hoysala temple here, dedicated to Lord Chennakeshava and built during the 11th Century.

I was doing some research on Hoysala temples when I accidentally located this on 'templesofkarnataka.com' website. It was on Google maps also. So I had no difficulty in reaching the place. However, the temple complex was closed which was a big disappointment. The temple is in the centre of the city adjacent to the KSRTC bus stand.

Keywords: Hoysala Temples, Sangameshwara & Jangameshwara Temple, Sindhaghatta The temple is on the lines of Aghalaya (trikuta) and Govindanahalli (panchakuta), with two Shiva linga sanctums in a row inside the same temple. One of them is identified as Sangameshwara and the other as Jangameshwara (currently). The outer walls are again uncarved, similar to the Vaishnava temple in the town, but the inner carvings - primarily the Bhuvaneshwari designs on the roof tops. The exact timeframe when the temple was built is unclear, although, it is conservatively attributed to the period of Hoysala king Ballala the 3rd, in 1299 AD. There are conflicting gazetteer entries that date the temple back to 1179 AD too, and to the times of Vishnuvardhana and Veera Ballala II.
