Applying for Malaysia, Cambodia & Thailand Visa from India
Keywords: e-Visa, Malaysia e-Visa, Cambodia e-Visa, Thailand Visa
I am writing this page to share my experience on how I obtained Visa for my family for our trip to Malaysia, Cambodia and Thailand.
Travelling to South Asia is one of the best thing one can do on an Indian passport. Most of the countries offer Visa on Arrival for Indian citizens. With Indian Government maintaining excellent diplomatic relationship with most of the Asian countries, the Visa norms are getting relaxed day by day. Many countries have simplified the Visa process and now are offering paper free e-Visa's.
Here is how I went by it.
Malaysia Visa
There are two ways of applying for a Malaysian Visa. One is applying directly at the Malaysian embassy through VFS Global and another one is through online. I did some background work and found that the online route is the most simplest and easiest way to apply for Malaysian Visa. To begin with, simply register as a new user at Link. Once you login, you will have 2 options as shown below:
e-Visa total cost: Visa fee 1150 INR and processing fee of 25 USD
e-NTRI total cost: processing fee 20 USD

Which one to choose?
Following conditions apply for eVisa:
- Stay in Malaysia is > 15 days
- While leaving Malaysia, if you are travelling to a country other than Brunei, Thailand or Singapore
- If you want to enter Malaysia multiple times
Following conditions apply for e-NTRI (electronic Travel Registration):
- Stay in Malaysia is < 15 days
- You are travelling only to Malaysia and then back to India
- For Indian national arriving from/via and leaving to/via Brunei/Singapore/Thailand.
In my case the itinerary was Malaysia-Cambodia-Thailand, hence the only option was e-Visa.
e-Visa total cost: Visa fee 1150 INR and processing fee of 25 USD
e-NTRI total cost: processing fee 20 USD
Documents required for e-VISA:
- Round Trip Air Tickets
- Details of stay in Malaysia
- Scanned copy of passport front and back page
- Scanned image of immigration stamp from last foreign visit if any
- Passport size photo with white background
Once you fill the form and upload the required documents, you will be prompted to pay the Visa and processing fees. The processing time is usually 24-48 hours. Once processed, you will receive an email about the status. Once issued, you can either download or print the e-Visa. That's it!!!
Cambodia Visa:
Cambodia offers Visa on arrival for Indian passport holders. But as an alternative there is an option to apply for an e-Visa. I decided to apply for an e-Visa.
Just follow the simple steps on the website.
Documents required for e-Visa:
- scanned copy of passport front and back page
- details of stay in Cambodia
- Port of entry and date
- passport size photo
Visa fee: 36 USD
If you have an e-Visa then you do not need to stand in long queues at the airport to obtain Visa on arrival. The processing time is less than 24 hours. Once processed, you will receive an email about the status.
Thailand Visa:
Like Cambodia, Thailand also offers Visa on arrival. One can also apply through the embassy to obtain a stamp visa by submitting an application through VFS global. I opted for the second option. I wanted to avoid standing in long queues at Bangkok airport. Interstingly, the Visa on arrival fee at Bangkok airport is 2000 baht whereas if you apply through VFS global, it costs only 2500 INR + courier fees. This is a little strange but you actually save some money. The only trouble with this is that there is some documentation involved and you need to personally go to VFS global and submit your application. But guys believe me, its worth doing it. Please visit the web page for more information.
First thing you need to do is download the Application Form.
You also need to fill and sign a checklist.
You also need to fill and sign a checklist.
You need to submit the following for each application:
- 2 passport size photographs
- filled application form
- a cover letter explaining details about your trip (not mandatory but i strongly recommend)
- air ticket copy with all name as in passport
- details of stay in Thailand
- details of financial status: IT Returns, salary slips and bank statement for a minimum period of 3 months
- xerox copy of passport front and back pages with self attestation
Once you submit your application at VFS, you have an option to either collect your passports in person or through courier which will eventually cost abot 250 INR per application. The processing time is usually 3-4 days.
Thats all guys, Happy Travel!!!
Nice and interesting information and informative too.
