Budget Stay in Amsterdam, Netherlands
Budget Stay in Amsterdam, Netherlands
After a splendid Rome trip, next day it was time to depart. Mavis had to get back to Eindhoven. Her flight was from Ciampino airport while our flight to Amsterdam was from Fiumicino. Both of us booked taxi's from the hotel. But Mavis promised to meet us again over the weekend at Amsterdam. Out flight was at 11:00 A. M. We reached Amsterdam at around 1:00 P. M. We had our lunch at Schiphol airport. For the next 5 days, we were staying at Hotel Ibis budget, Schiphol. Kripal also was returning back to India the next day as his final year dental exams were preponed. We checked in at Ibis budget. Ibis provides free airport shuttle every 30 min. This was a perfect place for budget stay. The rooms are as cheap as 65 euros if booked early. They also provide breakfast for 7 euros.
We quickly kept our luggage and then headed to Amsterdam central. We also had to get back to my Gachu's place where we had kept our main luggage. We took metro from Schiphol to Amsterdam central.
There is a tourist lounge right infront of the central metro building. We picked up a map and then headed to the canal area. The Amsterdam canal areas are just astonishing. The canal areas of Amsterdam are recognised UNESCO World heritage sites.
The canal area is just a km away from Amsterdam central. Some of the prominent tourist places are The Jordaan, Emperor's canal, Herengracht. These streets are all parallel to each other. Walking across these streets was just awesome. We also tried some weed at one of the so called Coffee shops.
After roaming around the canal area for an hour, we decided to head back to Amersfoort to pick our luggage. My cousin Ganchu joined us for the night out. We quickly kept our luggage back in the hotel and then headed back to Amsterdam.
Next we moved to the famous Dam square and then to the Red Light Area.
Dam Square is very famous tourist spot. Madame Tussaud's and Palace is located at this location. The night life is the best in this part of the world. You can just buy some beer and sit here for hours. There is so much life out here.
Walking along Red Light Area reminded me of the popular Bollywood movie "Queen". Photography is completely prohibited here. Despite of Prostitution and drugs being legal in Amsterdam, the crime rate is almost very low. After partying till late night Gachu had to get back to Amersfoort. He left around 12:00. We stayed in the city area for another hour. At around 2:00 A. M we headed back to the hotel in a Mercedes taxi. The driver was very friendly guy and we had a good jiffy drive. Kripal left the next day. We dropped him to the airport.
My cousin Shiva (elder brother to Gachu) and my sister in law Justyna who stay in London had come down to Amsterdam to meet me. Mavis also joined us agin over the weekend. Gachu and my sister in law Shivani also came all the way from Amersfoort. We all met up at Schiphol on 4th Nov, Friday night. We went to Dam Square had some good time together. Mavis, Madhu and myself stayed back and partied the whole night while the rest of them left to Amersfoort. We left back to the hotel at around 2:00 A. M.
Next day we were up early. We had a quick breakfast at the hotel and then came back to the city. We walked to Dappermarkt which is up only on Saturday. Its an amazing place to explore. We walked from end to end. We purchased some souvenir's and some gifts for our friends and loved ones back home.
We tried some sea food in one of the shops. Next, we headed to The Amstel. The Amstel river runs through the city of Amsterdam.
Finally it was time to say Goodbye to Mavis. She made our trip memorable. When we first planned the trip, we had absolutely no idea that we would all end up meeting in Europe. We all headed to Amsterdam Central station. Mavis left to Eindhoven and we headed back to Amersfoort to my cousin's place for a family dinner.
Next day, we headed back home. It was one of the most memorable trip ever.
