Gopalaswamy Temple, Govindanahalli
Keywords: Hoysala Temples, Gopalaswamy Temple, Govindanahalli
There was a caretaker at the Pacnhalingeshwara temple who was quite helpful in explaining the history of the temple. While in conversation he also mentioned about an abandoned and ruined temple in the nearby village and claimed it to be a hoysala temple. We were very keen and eager to check it out. While I had some serious doubts about it being a hoysala temple, Nayan was very much convinced and insisted to check it out. We reached the village and parked our car at the main road and started walking inside the narrow lanes of Govindanahalli. One of the villager directed us towards the temple. As we were walking towards it, we could not see anything within our sight and for a moment we thought of going back. And then all of a sudden, a small temple appeared right infront.
The temple idol of Sri venugopala or popularly known in the village as gopalaswamy looked very elegant and spectacular. This temple was a surprise package in the trip. After taking a few photos, we happily moved out of Govindanahallii and then headed to our last destination Mosale.
