Best of Hamburg in a Day, Germany

Best of Hamburg in a Day, Germany

After a scenic tour through Zaanse Schans, next day early morning we were travelling to Hamburg. We had a quick breakfast at the hotel and then took the free shuttle to airport. Hamburg flight duration from Schiphol is about 40 min. We landed at Flughafen airport at around 9:30 A. M. This time Madhu and I decided to boycott taxi and travel through city transport. So we directly moved to tourist centre located in the airport complex and got ourselves one day city pass. It costed us only 11 euros wherein we could travel in metro, tram, ferry and bus. I strongly recommend this to everybody. Hamburg has one of the best rail networks in the world. The airport is about 30 min away from the city.

Our plan for the day was to visit:

  • Jungfernstieg
  • Alster Lakes
  • Hafen City
  • Landungsbrucken, Hamburg Port
  • Elb Tunnel
First, we headed to Jungfernstieg. It is city's foremost boulevard and a very popular tourist attraction. The inner Alster lake is located here and gives a spectacular view.

Next we headed to outer Alster lake popularly known as Aussenalster.

We next headed to Hafen city. It is located on the Elbe river. It is a designated UNESCO world heritage site.

We had a buffet lunch in one of the eateries in Hafen city. After our lunch, we headed to Landungsbruecken. It is the famous port area of Hamburg.

There is an entrance to the Old Elbe tunnel at the western end of the Landungsbrücken.

We purchased some souvenirs and then headed back to the airport. We reached Schiphol by 8:00 P. M and went back to the hotel.
