Keywords: Hoysala Temples, Gangadhareshvara Temple, Turuvekere

Sri.Gangadhareshwara Temple at Turuvekere, is unique in its kind. We heard that the Shiva Idol is carved with Ganga sitting on top of his head and one can see fountains of water being flowing in the form Prabhavali. It is the only temple which is having such depiction of Ganga and Shiva being together. This temple is built around 1194 A. D.

In front of the temple, one can find beautifully carved Nandi which is aroun 7+ feet in height which is decorated with bells and belt carved with unique design. The sitting Nandi is being polished to such an extent that one can see the reflection in it. Also, the idol is very much intact and not being ruined anywhere. The other attraction in the temple is a bell made out of rock, which is around 2 feet in diameter and one can get the ringing sound by using rock or any metal piece.
